One of my favorite Shel Silverstein poems goes like this:
Here comes summer,
Here comes summer,
Chirping robin, budding rose.
Here comes summer,
Here comes summer,
Gentle showers, summer clothes.
Here comes summer,
Here comes summer --
Whoosh -- shiver -- there it goes.
That is exactly how I am feeling right now. We longed for summer and although we are relishing every minute of it I can feel it slipping by way to fast. I want to pull on the reigns and say whoa! It is already nearly the middle of July and next month on the 1st Asher will be turning two. I want to say whoa to that too. The kids are all growing up so fast sometimes I am afraid that if I turn away from them for a minute when I look back they will be in college! So I am trying to savor small moments.
A couple of weeks ago we got to participate in the Lehi Roundup celebration. One of the things we really like about living in Lehi is that although it is becoming very large many aspects of the community feel very much like a small town with a grand history. One of these is the Roundup days. Every year the LDS wards create a mini float based on a particular theme. This year's theme was tall tales and traditions. Our ward float was about fishing. One of the girls in our ward created a phenomenal float and all the primary age kids get to either be on the float or walk with it. The kids look forward every year to taking part in the parades. I say parades because there are two, well, actually three. There is the All Horse Parade and then there is the mini parade and the mammoth parade. The mini parade consists mainly of the mini floats that the wards create and it takes place on Friday. The mammoth parade has all the mini floats as well as bands from lots of high schools and big floats from surrounding communities. This was the first year that Asher really got to enjoy watching the parade and he LOVED it! He especially enjoyed the fire truck and catching all the candy being thrown out. Seeing the parade through his eyes puts a new shine on everything that we as adults have seen many times before. It is all new to him and I wanted to jump up and down and do the "happy dance" with him as he watched the fire truck approach. JJ rode his scooter with the float and Lance pulled Hannah in the wagon.

It has been a HOOOOTTTTTT summer and the kids are loving playing in the water at our house or Grandma Jeppson's or where ever. They especially loved playing on the slip and slide at Chloe's birthday party. They are all getting to be so brown although JJ (like me) burns very easily. Asher and Hannah seem to have Lance's complexion - they just tan and tan and tan.
We have enjoyed our membership to Thanksgiving Point and try to go out there several times a month. We went for FHE recently and had a great time wandering around and just being together. There was a neat bird show too and the kids got to pet a cockatoo.

The fourth of July was full of tradition and fun. Of course we had to BBQ on our new grill (wahoo our first new -not previously owned- grill) and then we headed over to Thanksgiving Point to watch the fireworks. We love going in and getting a spot on the lawn early and letting the kids play and just hang out. This has to be one of our favorite family traditions of all time.

Lance is off to Atlanta but will be back soon. He is hanging out at the CDC (centers for disease control) learning all sorts of interesting things that will hopefully help should there be an "outbreak" of something bad here. Sara says that the less she knows about such things the better she sleeps at night.
Well here's hoping that as the summer slips away that we all try to savor the little moments that make life sweet!
