Lance on KSL's Studio 5

For those along the Wasatch Front, Lance is going to be on channel 5 at 11am tomorrow (Friday, Jan 25th), talking immunizations.

Opps - Sara rear ended

For those who hadn't heard, Sara had a little accident this afternoon. No body was hurt, the airbags didn't deploy or anything. Sara was taking the kids to school and had stopped at the light in front of our church to turn right. She says she actually saw the guy stop behind her, but then he thought she was moving or something and ran into the back of her. It cracked the tail light cover and dented the back door, but there is no other damage that we can see.

The kids were a little shook up (the cop that responded asked if everyone was okay, and Hannah told him "I'm scared." Asher was crying, but that was just as likely that he was ready for a nap). Sara a little shook as well (she called me immediately, and I came home from work), but everyone seems to be just fine. The kids went to school with a friend (Rachel Young, a neighbor/ward member with a little girl named Cari, who is also in JJ's kindergarten class. She was also nice enough to run Hannah over to pre-school).

Now we just have to get some estimates and get the van fixed. Really more of an inconvenience than anything else, but that's how it goes sometimes. Everyone was buckled in/in carseats (insert shameless plug for proper passenger safety restraint use here), so we are grateful it was all as simple as that.

Fieldtrips, Scrapbooks, Parties Oh My!

This week began with Hannah looking forward to a bowling field trip on Tuesday, which was unfortunately cancelled when a huge blizzard rolled into town. JJ still wanted to go to school so I took him and was surprised to see the sun come out just a few hours later. Grandma J. had driven through the snow to be able to watch Asher so I could go with Hannah to her field trip. She actually missed the turn off to our street the snow was so bad. Thankfully she made it safely and by the time she left to go it was pretty sunny. What can you do about crazy weather?!?! The field trip was rescheduled for Thursday which I had already set up with my friend to help her do a little digital scrapbooking during the kids school so Hannah got to ride in Miss Jeanna's truck and be independent of Mom for once. She quite enjoyed her self but alas I have no photos of the trip to scrapbook - guess I will survive since I am about 10 years behind anyway! JJ has enjoyed playing with a girl named Cari who is in his class at school and who lives about a block away. They giggle a lot! Cari isn't into trains at all so JJ is learning he can be friends with people who don't share all his same interests. One of his other little girl friends named Kynlee announced to her mom that she was going to be a cheerleader when she grows up because JJ is going to be a football player and that way they can always be friends! JJ has lots of guy friends too - everybody seems to like him, probably because he is so outgoing and friendly. He has emerged as a real leader, who always tries to involve everybody (even Hannah!). He had a great time at a birthday party for a girl named Jazmine in his class today although, I wasn't thrilled when I got the van stuck in the snow on their driveway - a very tight squeeze between another car and a brick fence! I have been doing some eBay for a friend of mine as well as posting some of my stuff that I really need to get rid of so Lance and his dad can work on finishing more of the basement. Yes! you heard me right Jake is been given the go ahead to do pretty much anything (within reason) and he is excited to get back working on projects with Lance and Vance. Asher has a new game we call it the "helping game". He slowly empties the silverware drawer, bringing each fork or spoon to us (or dropping it on the floor). He emptied out the entire silverware drawer the other day during dinner. He does something similar with the dresser drawers in the kid's room and our room. So helpful! NOT! I think that I have every knife or scissor put well beyond his reach or locked in a child-lock drawer and some how he finds them and brings them to me at a gallop! If this kid makes it to 2 it is going to be a miracle! Lance's week included the thrill of finally getting the heater fixed on his car so he isn't a popsicle when he gets to work any more, dealing with an interesting "investigative reporter" and refinishing and putting together a couple of salvaged kitchen chairs. Friday night he was kind enough to take on the kids so I could spend the evening at a scrapbook crop with two of my friends. It was fun but we definitely ended up talking more than scrapping but I was able to try out my new rolling carts and finally finish Hannah's first year albums.

Happy New Year 2008

It's the beginning of a new year and we have resolved to try and to keep in touch a little better with all of you who mean so much to us. So we are going to try to keep this blog updated and hope that all of you who are interested will stop by and check it out. We would love to hear from all of you either in person, email or as comments on this blog. Heck, if you feel ambitious, start a blog here too we would love to visit your blog. So here goes:

Sara: I am planning the occasional girls night out with my friends from the ward here. We try to get out together a couple of times a month even if it is just to go out to dinner. I would love to have a bigger house but I don't think that I could stand leaving this ward and all the phenomenal girls I get to hang out with. I have been burning the midnight oil doing some digital scrapbooking layouts. I am specifically putting together an album of all our Christmas pictures. I thought it would be fun to go back and look at each year's photos - what has changed, what is the same etc.

Lance: Alright, so it seems like if I write for a living it shouldn't be hard to put something in here ... just have to find the time to sit down and do it. Things are kind of quiet at work at the moment (no major disease outbreaks, and programs kind of shut down during the holidays). Still writing for the Pony Express (weekly paper). Always trying to find time to work on the basement. Guess the funnest thing of late is the fact I have been asked to participate in the "Great Basin Leadership Public Health Institute." It is a special year-long training program that is supposed to build leadership and inspire us to overcome public health challenges. I still have to apply, but it is kind of like if the company wants to sponsor someone, they get in. Now if I can just find the time to do my Gospel Doctrine lesson and avoid "play on Daddy" (who gave the kids "Hop on Pop" by Dr. Seuss, anyway?!!?).

JJ: The biggest change in JJ's life right now is moving up to a different class in primary. He has loved his teacher and classmates. We are really hopeful and excited for his new year in primary. He has a great teacher again this year and although some of his friends are in the other class for his age group we are sure that this will be a great experience for him. JJ LOVES his kindergarten class and looks forward to going every day. He really enjoys the art projects that he gets to do and anything to do with math. Reading isn't his favorite thing unless he is being read to. His favorite books are the Magic Treehouse series. JJ received a Lego train for Christmas and spent several days putting it together (all by himself, I might add). He can build just about anything out of Legos! Although he complains about his sister's princess stuff he is very willing to play with her and they really are each other's best friends. (They would never admit that though) JJ is looking forward to the "Model Train Show" coming to Thanksgiving Point at the end of this month and is saving his money to spend at the show.

Hannah: Last month Hannah turned 4 years old. She is often torn between wanting to be all grown up and still hanging on to a few baby traits. She quietly entertains her self most of the day but can be ear splittingly loud when playing with JJ. She can be heard singing "It's a Holly Jolly Christmas" at the top of her lungs or another one of her favorite songs of the moment. Hannah's favorite Christmas gift was her new Leapster hand held game. She and JJ both have one now and they share the game cartridges. Hannah can write her first name very well now and recognizes most of the letters of the alphabet and can tell you the sound they make. Although she is not currently enrolled in a dance class she seems to dance her way through life, hearing some music that only she can hear.

Asher: Our baby is growing up! We are all a little sad about this fact but we do love the person he is becoming. Asher will be going into Nursery in less than a month. Of course this means that either Lance or I (or both of us) will have to be there too. Asher is happy, friendly and outgoing - if he is in familiar surroundings and with people he knows well. He is gradually becoming more outgoing but it is a very slow process. He is also finally beginning to talk. He can say mama, JJ, dog, shoes, & baby. For everything else in his world he uses grunts and points. He loves to tuck JJ and Hannah in at night, give them a kiss and tell the shhhh! He is quite mischievous, stealing things he isn't supposed to have and then running for it. He is quite the climber too and will be up on the kitchen table doing a dance if we don't push in the chairs. His favorite Christmas toys would have to be the Winnie the Pooh ride on toy from Grandma and Grandpa Madigan, and the little "car simulator" that Grandma Jeppson gave him (it looks like the dashboard of a car, with all the buttons and knobs). He loves to push the music button and then dance around in a circle and then run back and push the button again. That, and stealing anything Hannah or JJ happen to have at the moment.

There is nothing amazing or exciting about our lives except the little triumphs like JJ having zero behavior problems at school or Asher learning to say a few words but we are grateful for each moment we are granted. I like the lyrics of this Rascal Flatts song. . .

"This Everyday Love"

Can't get enough of this everyday love
Can't get enough of this everyday love
Each morning the sun shines through my window
Lands on the face of a dream come true
I shuffle to the kitchen for my coffee

And catch up on the front page morning news
Then she walks up behind me and throws her arms around my neck
Just another normal thing I've come to expect

[Chorus]
It's ordinary plain and simple
Typical, this everyday love
Same ol', same ol' keeping it new
(Same ol'/This everyday love)
Emotional, so familiar
Nothing about it too peculiar
Oh, but I can't get enough
Of this everyday love
Every afternoon I make a phone call
Listen to the voice that warms my heart
I drag myself through a few more hours
Then head on home to try and beat the dark
Her smile will be right there when I step through that door
And it will be that way tomorrow, just like everyday before

[Repeat Chorus]
Wouldn't change one single thing about it

No, it's run-of-the-mill, still I can't live without it

[Repeat Chorus]
Yeah, of this everyday love

Can't get enough of this everyday love
Can't get enough of this everyday love
Can't get enough of this everyday love
Can't get enough
