Summer is rolling right along for us. With a few exceptions, it has been pretty good. The last couple of weeks have seen us dealing with a sick kid. The sick kid happens to be Hannah. She is so rarely sick and when she is, hardly ever complains, so I forget that she is sick. This time around though she had been complaining of headaches, sore throat, cough and has run a pretty consistent fever for nearly 2 weeks. On the 8th day of a the fever I took her to the doctor and was shocked to find out that she had pneumonia. I felt so guilty that I hadn't taken her in sooner. We just kept doing stuff and she would tough it out but then be totally exhausted. We got her first on zithromax and quickly found out that she is allergic to that medication. She got hives on her face initially but during the time when that med was in her system we saw hives on her arms and her stomach too. The after hours clinic told us to use benedryl for a day and then try the zithromax again which we did but she got a stronger reaction the second time around. So I called the doc and took her in so that they could see her reaction and document it so she won't be perscribed that family of medicaiton again. The unfortunate part of that is that zithromax treats the two kinds of pneumonia that are out there whereas the other medication options only treat one or the other or are extremely expensive. The doc (not our usual doc) decided to go with augmentin which is pretty darn expensive too but only treats the strep pneumonia. It seems to be working. Hannah has gotten her energy pretty much back and her appetite has come back too. She still has a cough so I am not letting her play in the water which is pretty much torture due to the heat wave we are having at the moment. A funny thing happened in connection with this how situation. JJ went to cub scouts the day we found out she had pneumonia and told his den about it. Later one of the moms of JJ and Hannah's friends emailed me very concerned and wondering if we needed help. Her son had come home and told her that Hannah was dying of a sickness and that her face was all puffy (that was what he got from the hives comment). I quickly emailed back that while we greatly appreciated her concern - Hannah wasn't dying or contagious and would be fine soon. We had a good laugh about how words can be taken different ways.
The kids had dentist appointments last week. Hannah didn't get to do hers due to being sick but the boys did. I am continually amazed at how much they enjoy going to the dentist. I HATED it as a child. Of course they have never had a cavity and I had tons growing up. My mom also didn't allow them to give me laughing gas or any kind of pain reduction so you can imagine why I hated it so much. This week Hannah got rescheduled for her appointment so I decided I should make my self go and have an appointment too.
The chick drama continues with another of our chicks getting killed. Jax was the culprit this time and probably the last time too. I was NOT happy and very ready to get rid of him. I am still not thrilled with him but we are trying to make it work keeping him. Lance really wanted to keep him and the boys were devastated when I said I wanted to get rid of him. We will see. Hopefully we can train him not to bother the chickens. So I won't be getting any blue eggs this year because it was my Americauna chick he killed again this time.
In other happenings, I went with Hannah to Activity Day Girls Day camp
at the stake center. It was a long day but fun. I really enjoy the
kids in our primary! The boys got to go fishing with Grandpa while me
and Hannah were gone. They had lots of fun too.
