May was a soccer month for us. JJ and Asher both played games every Saturday and had weekly practices. Lance was Asher's coach again this year. He had a great team made up of boys he had in past seasons as well as boys from Asher's school. There were lots of rainy, cold games but the boys toughed it out and their last game was a blowout. Such a great way to end the season.
These kids get up to all kinds of crazy stuff. Case in point . . . playing with the new toilet before Lance installed it. Super weird, I know. Where do they get these ideas?
This month Lance got he great news that he was offered has "dream job" with Intermountain Healthcare corporate offices. Although he has made some great friends and had an awesome experience with the Utah County Health Department he has wanted to move on to other challenges for a while now. He's pretty thrilled to be a part of the Intermountain family which will afford lots of new experiences and chances to advance his career. He will be working at the corporate offices at City Creek, downtown SLC. He made the somewhat spur of the moment decision to get LASIK with the FSA money that wouldn't roll over to his new job. I have been encouraging him for years since I had PRK done - that he should take the leap. He has been happy with the results but it did accelerate his over 40 vision. So now he has to use reading glasses. I jumped on the reading glasses bandwagon as well - just to make him feel less self conscious.
This is a video of one of his eyes getting lasered. Kinda gross but interesting too.
May is a full month with all the activities at the end of the school year. One of my favorites is always the Dance Festival. We almost got rained out but after a slight postponement it went ahead and we had sunny weather and blue skies. Asher danced to Surfin' USA and Hannah danced to Shake It Off.
I heard a big commotion out in the yard one day and went out to see what it was. All the birds from robins to tiny finches were putting up a big racket. Hannah's kitty mouse was playing with this little baby robin. He or she wasn't really hurt but not quite ready to fly and with no way of getting it back into the next we tried to help it but Mouse caught it again the next day. We rescued it from Mouse again and it seem fine (Mouse just likes to play with it). Not sure if it finally figured out how to fly or if Mouse ended up with a birdy lunch. Hopefully it flew away.
Memorial day is also in May. We kept up our tradition to meet up with Charlie and his kids at the Brigham City cemetery to decorate the graves of our loved ones and to have a picnic together at Watkins park. Our kids look forward to this special time to spend with their cousins and second cousins. We love our family very much! This little guy is growing up way to fast! Hannah had a blast playing with his at the park.
Piper is getting so big too! She seemed to love walking around finding sticks to chew on and checking out new smells. Asher followed her around. He loves his 4 legged cousins too!
These two are kindred spirits!
There is nothing I love more than my family. I am so grateful for every moment I spend with them. This is our old cat Bo. He's still around 16 year after he came to us. He is still just as friendly and patient as always. He still wants a tummy rub and a snuggle every chance he gets and if you are outside weeding you can be sure he will be there rubbing up against you or plopping down in the middle of where you are weeding so you have to pet him to get on with your work.
Hannah has LOVED her 5th grade teacher Mrs. Whitely. This photo and video illustrate one of the reasons why she is so loved. She isn't afraid to play with the kids. Hannah has done better in her class than ever before and so much is due to Mrs. Whitely believing in her.
Hannah's partner for all the dances was Coleman Peck a 6th grader.
JJ's soccer season came to an end at the end of May. He has had a good team and coach for these past few years so we were sad to hear the some of the team and coach were moving up to a competitive soccer league. However several of the boys are still planning on playing next season in this league so we are hoping we did everything right to get JJ signed up with them so at least he will know 3 or 4 kids on his team.
I let Hannah and Asher take a camera on the last day of school and it was fun to see what they got pictures of.
Mrs. Whitely and Hannah
This is Asher with his wonderful teacher Mrs. Silva. She really recognized his strengths and helped him magnify them. She helped his self esteem and confidence grow in areas that he has struggled with. We are so grateful for the influence of wonderful teachers on the lives of our children.
May also marked the open house for the Payson Temple. We had the great opportunity to visit it and see how beautiful it is. Families can be together forever!
I got to decorate our new librarian's doors for Teacher Appreciation week. She's a good friend so I was pretty excited to make her a fun door decoration!
Hannah's grade had their State Fair in May as well. Her state was Arkansas and she did a great job researching and getting her info together. I helped her put the trifold together. (parent projects, yay) The boy next to her is her friend Conner. He's "liked" her since kindergarten.
I got to take a day off and help chaperon the 5th grade trip to Hogle Zoo. Missy went too so we kind of combined our two groups and had a blast together.

The kids were pretty darn excited to go to see the latest Avengers movie: Age of Ultron. We are pretty nerdy at our house.
