Jumping in Headfirst

So we are diving into summer even if the weather still feels like early spring at times. After school got out we headed up to Heber to see and ride on Thomas the Tank Engine. JJ is kinda growing out of his obsession with trains but he still enjoyed the trip. Most of the activities were geared toward Asher's age so he had a great time. My mom came with us and my friend Jamie brought her boys and met us up there. It was a really fun day.

Memorial Day the rain, thankfully, took a break. We had a nice day visiting the cemetery and our favorite park in Brigham City. It is always fun to hang out with Charlie and his kids. I did miss Mary Ellen being there though. I surprised myself by getting really choked up at my dad's headstone. He has been gone nine years now but I still miss him and I am sad that he isn't here to share in my kids lives.

The kids have enjoyed doing swim lessons the last two weeks. It is really fun to see Hannah and JJ doing real swimming now - the front stroke and the back stroke etc.

We have had other fun activities so far this month as well. JJ attended the Jeremiah Johnson Cub day camp and LOVED it! He loved every activity he got to participate in. It helped that he was there with some of his best friends and his dad! One of his buddies fell in the lake while they were canoeing but didn't panic thankfully. JJ was able to fulfill a dream of buying his own swiss army pocket knife. He is pretty excited to show everyone all the stuff on his pocket knife. He is ALL boy! I think he would be perfectly happy to live at the day camp for the entire summer.

Lance finally got a calling in this new ward. He is the Webelos leader. He has done this calling before and will be great with the boys in this ward. Speaking of callings I taught my first Relief Society lesson in this ward at the beginning of the month. It seemed to go well. Teaching in Relief Society is something I have done many times before so I felt pretty comfortable even if I don't know the ladies that well. I have decided that if I could transplant a few specific people from the old ward to this one it would be pretty nearly perfect.

Last week we finished up swim lessons, visited the Living Planet Aquarium and the Gateway Children's Museum. It was a busy but fun week.

I have been working with the kids with some summer bridge workbooks. JJ and Hannah both seem to enjoy spending a half an hour or so working on school stuff. Hopefully it will help them not loose so much ground at the beginning of the next school year. JJ has become an avid reader when we can get him away from his video games. He LOVES to be read to so I have been reading the Lightening Thief to him. It is an exciting book and really fun to read out loud. I am sure he could read it himself but he really likes to have me do it and I like spending time with him this way. Hannah and Asher come and go while we read but don't have the same level of attention span.

JJ started RAD kids this week so he will be gone in the mornings doing that and will have baseball practices and games in the evenings and Saturdays during the next few weeks. Lance is coaching his baseball team. I keep wondering if Lance is getting tired of coaching all the time but I think he really enjoys it. We signed JJ and Hannah both up for soccer for the fall and spring so we will continue to be busy with kids sports! Keeping busy is the name of the game at our house.
