Happy New Year 2008

It's the beginning of a new year and we have resolved to try and to keep in touch a little better with all of you who mean so much to us. So we are going to try to keep this blog updated and hope that all of you who are interested will stop by and check it out. We would love to hear from all of you either in person, email or as comments on this blog. Heck, if you feel ambitious, start a blog here too we would love to visit your blog. So here goes:

Sara: I am planning the occasional girls night out with my friends from the ward here. We try to get out together a couple of times a month even if it is just to go out to dinner. I would love to have a bigger house but I don't think that I could stand leaving this ward and all the phenomenal girls I get to hang out with. I have been burning the midnight oil doing some digital scrapbooking layouts. I am specifically putting together an album of all our Christmas pictures. I thought it would be fun to go back and look at each year's photos - what has changed, what is the same etc.

Lance: Alright, so it seems like if I write for a living it shouldn't be hard to put something in here ... just have to find the time to sit down and do it. Things are kind of quiet at work at the moment (no major disease outbreaks, and programs kind of shut down during the holidays). Still writing for the Pony Express (weekly paper). Always trying to find time to work on the basement. Guess the funnest thing of late is the fact I have been asked to participate in the "Great Basin Leadership Public Health Institute." It is a special year-long training program that is supposed to build leadership and inspire us to overcome public health challenges. I still have to apply, but it is kind of like if the company wants to sponsor someone, they get in. Now if I can just find the time to do my Gospel Doctrine lesson and avoid "play on Daddy" (who gave the kids "Hop on Pop" by Dr. Seuss, anyway?!!?).

JJ: The biggest change in JJ's life right now is moving up to a different class in primary. He has loved his teacher and classmates. We are really hopeful and excited for his new year in primary. He has a great teacher again this year and although some of his friends are in the other class for his age group we are sure that this will be a great experience for him. JJ LOVES his kindergarten class and looks forward to going every day. He really enjoys the art projects that he gets to do and anything to do with math. Reading isn't his favorite thing unless he is being read to. His favorite books are the Magic Treehouse series. JJ received a Lego train for Christmas and spent several days putting it together (all by himself, I might add). He can build just about anything out of Legos! Although he complains about his sister's princess stuff he is very willing to play with her and they really are each other's best friends. (They would never admit that though) JJ is looking forward to the "Model Train Show" coming to Thanksgiving Point at the end of this month and is saving his money to spend at the show.

Hannah: Last month Hannah turned 4 years old. She is often torn between wanting to be all grown up and still hanging on to a few baby traits. She quietly entertains her self most of the day but can be ear splittingly loud when playing with JJ. She can be heard singing "It's a Holly Jolly Christmas" at the top of her lungs or another one of her favorite songs of the moment. Hannah's favorite Christmas gift was her new Leapster hand held game. She and JJ both have one now and they share the game cartridges. Hannah can write her first name very well now and recognizes most of the letters of the alphabet and can tell you the sound they make. Although she is not currently enrolled in a dance class she seems to dance her way through life, hearing some music that only she can hear.

Asher: Our baby is growing up! We are all a little sad about this fact but we do love the person he is becoming. Asher will be going into Nursery in less than a month. Of course this means that either Lance or I (or both of us) will have to be there too. Asher is happy, friendly and outgoing - if he is in familiar surroundings and with people he knows well. He is gradually becoming more outgoing but it is a very slow process. He is also finally beginning to talk. He can say mama, JJ, dog, shoes, & baby. For everything else in his world he uses grunts and points. He loves to tuck JJ and Hannah in at night, give them a kiss and tell the shhhh! He is quite mischievous, stealing things he isn't supposed to have and then running for it. He is quite the climber too and will be up on the kitchen table doing a dance if we don't push in the chairs. His favorite Christmas toys would have to be the Winnie the Pooh ride on toy from Grandma and Grandpa Madigan, and the little "car simulator" that Grandma Jeppson gave him (it looks like the dashboard of a car, with all the buttons and knobs). He loves to push the music button and then dance around in a circle and then run back and push the button again. That, and stealing anything Hannah or JJ happen to have at the moment.

There is nothing amazing or exciting about our lives except the little triumphs like JJ having zero behavior problems at school or Asher learning to say a few words but we are grateful for each moment we are granted. I like the lyrics of this Rascal Flatts song. . .

"This Everyday Love"

Can't get enough of this everyday love
Can't get enough of this everyday love
Each morning the sun shines through my window
Lands on the face of a dream come true
I shuffle to the kitchen for my coffee

And catch up on the front page morning news
Then she walks up behind me and throws her arms around my neck
Just another normal thing I've come to expect

[Chorus]
It's ordinary plain and simple
Typical, this everyday love
Same ol', same ol' keeping it new
(Same ol'/This everyday love)
Emotional, so familiar
Nothing about it too peculiar
Oh, but I can't get enough
Of this everyday love
Every afternoon I make a phone call
Listen to the voice that warms my heart
I drag myself through a few more hours
Then head on home to try and beat the dark
Her smile will be right there when I step through that door
And it will be that way tomorrow, just like everyday before

[Repeat Chorus]
Wouldn't change one single thing about it

No, it's run-of-the-mill, still I can't live without it

[Repeat Chorus]
Yeah, of this everyday love

Can't get enough of this everyday love
Can't get enough of this everyday love
Can't get enough of this everyday love
Can't get enough
